M106
is a large (one of the largest and brightest nearby
galaxies) spiral galaxy, located in the constellation Canes
Venatici at a distance of about 24 million light-years. The
other galaxies at the picture are relatively bright spiral
NGC 4248 above M106 and much weaker (16th
mag.) UGC 7356 to the right. Some other
smaller galaxies can be seen in the background as well. E.g
the cluster near the top left corner is more than 3 billion
light-years
away from
Earth. As usually I can also here show you a quasar (now
with z=3:66 and light travel time almost 12 billion LY)
marked by an arrow on the outer arm at ~ 2 hours from the
center.
